About me

A trained and qualified translator, writer and researcher, I provide accurate, intelligent and nuanced translations of German texts into English. After growing up in Canterbury, UK, as part of a German-British family, I moved to Berlin in 1992 to discover my German heritage – the plan was to stay for six months, but the city has never let me go. I studied at the Freie Universität Berlin and have since divided my time between the UK and Germany, working as a translator, editor and administrator at a number of organisations in Berlin, Potsdam and London, including FU Berlin, the Alfred-Wegener-Institut, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences and the German Historical Institute London. I hold the Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists, London and a PhD from the University of York. My training as a researcher and writer combined with my business experience and love of languages have given me the opportunity to work in a wide variety of fields, and this has been essential to my development as a linguist. Now based in the UK with numerous clients in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, I am always open to new enquiries about translating, editing, and cultural and linguistic issues that you may be encountering when you’re writing for an English-speaking audience. Because as a translator, you’re never just translating words – you’re translating worlds.
